DAVE fair play to you for getting stuck into those guys ,that took a lot of guts
we should all take a leaf out of your book and speak up its the only way we are going to
educate these people
i dont think its a good idea for anybody to approach a group of strangers whether they
be eastern europeans or irish unless you are with someone
nobody should put themselves in a position were they could get into a spot of bother,
nothing is worth that especially, given that most marks fished by these people are
piers and rock marks

eyesreilly wrote:Just an update on this issue lads  .I returned to Na Clocha Liatha this morning to fish the rising tide. There were noticeably far fewer fish here this week. I know that its getting a bit late in the year for daylight fishing , but i did get 4 corkwing wrasse, and a couple of small pollock and coalies(lovely for soup  ). I was there on my own for about an hour, then the East european lads from last week, plus 3 others, turned up."Any fish?", one of them asked. That was my cue to have a rant at them  ,,,red flag to a bull and all that. "No!", says I, "Didnt you clear the place out last week.?"."We only took a few, "he said. "You filled a bag to bursting with small fish , I walked over last weekand saw the bag " I said,,"What country are you from?"."Latvia" they said.........."How would you like it if the Irish went to Latvia and took all the fish home to save themselves a few bob on food,,most of us take the odd fish home but you took 35-40 wrasse from here last week and now theres no fish". I told them it was disgraceful and that most of the Irish anglers would feel the same as me about it. I also said that I was sorry that i didnt say something last week but i didnt think they spoke much English. They set up and had a couple of casts, catching one tiny pollock between them(they threw it back  ).Then they up and left,,, hopefully not to clean out somewhere else. To be fair, i didnt feel any animosity from them after I said my piece, and they could have just told me to hump off or something similar :? . I felt much better having got it off my chest and would recommend that if we all did something similar, they would soon get the message. In case you all think im stone mad there were plenty of people about, plus i had my flotation jacket on to dive in to the water if they turned on me  .If it was evening time im not sure if i'd be so brave

Fair play to you lad, as I said in the other Na clocha Liatha thread, which has been locked by the mod for God only knows what reason  , when these guys are challanged they do more often than not back down!

Well done, you have guts ... It's not always easy to approach people like this when you are alone has they are always two or three (and sometimes more) ... Hat off ...

fair play dave!!! done the same myself at bangor on a few occasions during the summer. i usually find that if you are assertive in you language and stance rather than aggressive you will make a lot more headway with these guys. some just don't know better where as others will just take the p155. but well done for letting them know it's not on to fill a carrier bag with 5 inch fish when they go out. you never know they might tell their friends that we're all onto them. even if it only puts a few of them off. i supose something's better than nothing. and that's the reason all our posts are now being just put up as county antrim or county down rock marks lately. the chinese lads who told me they took over 30 conger outta bangor harbour in 2 weeks just made me sick. but that's why the p.m. bit on the site is handy, only share marks with people who you trust is now the name of the game

how about removing the location tag from the report , or putting a warning sign next to it, or is it the case that in hinesight this site has got it wrong from the start and all the time it has just been an advertisment for every tom dick and harry on where to fish and bag everything that is out there, right or wrong we all love to boost on what we catch but has this been our downfall,

Would it be an Idea to make the reports sections unaccessable to anyone with less than, say 50 posts? Im sure those that run the site would have a good handle on the number of people who 'leech' ie create an account, access the site regularly, but dont contribute?

paddy - the 50 posts idea has been touted plenty of times before - and the moderation team thinks its better to have the site more accessible to all

even though a few rotten eggs might abuse it - its all about encouragement and enjoying the fishing

even if we had 50 posts these boys could come in and do 50 others posts and then have the information they are after
