Price comparisons.

Blame the wholesalers lads. As mentioned on other threads I'm in retail myself, in the C-Store sector. I took the decision a few weeks ago to step away from my Symbol group and go independent and source my stock independently. This was due in no small part to the fact that an identical range of products from a Northern outlet of a well known IRISH Cash & Carry group were working out approximately 40% cheaper than what I was being charged in the past from my southern wholesalers. This is not accounting for VAT, those are nett comparisons. The exchange rate is good at the moment granted but it doesnt explain that massive difference. BTW, when it comes to my line of business, I'm firmly in the belief that the Symbol Groups in this countries buying policies have an awful lot to answer for in terms of the "rip off Ireland" mentality. For too long, buying departments have looked to see what the market can bear when it comes to working out retail prices and consequently working back to a wholesale price.

i saved over a hundred euro on electronics fot the boat in the boatshow last week by just mentioning to the dealer that i could get it cheaper from the uk he asked the price and matched it there an then .

let it be known that you are willing to do buisness with them accross the water

sometimes it pays it did in my case and im happy im sure the dealer is aswell he made a sale.

are you an expert on everything, match fishing, economics, politics, lidl.......etc
i for one will continue to shop from my local tackle shop even if it means spending a little extra, prices are dropping, conoflex and century rods are already a lot cheaper, a bb in viking tackle is only 335??

lads can i suggest you try " a shore thing" in westport on the quays,was in there today,doug himself served us, hes a pure gentleman,he could not have been more helpfull,and his prices are amazing!! never have i seen prices as good as these in a fishing shop! I will deff be using this shop on a regular basis!

froggle can be your best bet, and a good starting point, it will also bring up items listed on ebay it really does help shorten the trawl for finding gear!

I would always use the local tackle shop where possible, as long as the price is there or there abouts. The day to day stuff is reasonable enough and it is invaluable for bait etc.

HOWEVER,I recently bought a new reel on the web for E300 delivered and the cheapest I saw it anywhere in Ireland was 540. I researched the reel and where it could be bought for weeks before hand and really tried to keep the business in Ireland.

For a 10% difference I still would have bought local but an 80% difference?????????????????

Even taking into account the VAT difference and the difference in business overheads an 80% difference seems a lot excessive.

i got 2 "shimano nexave bx 130f" rods a few weeks ago from a uk online shop, delivered to my door in 3 days at a total of 131.40 euro on my credit card statement. i found them on an irish site for 149euro EACH. thats about 18euro more expensive for 1 than i paid for 2.
if it had been 10-15euro of a difference id have bought in ireland but 166euro is a bit much.

sayin that the shop had them on offer and they are now back upto £99 so after P&P itd be 244euro for the 2 in UK, still over 50euro of a difference.

The tackle shops in this country definitely are ripping people of.

I'm just about to buy the James Hetfield Truckster guitar for the same price as I would get it in the UK. So why is that possible??
