Short answer: yes

Long answer: the SI says it covers ICES areas VI and VII. Since this covers all the waters surrounding the island, then I guess it applies in any Republic territorial water.

You've completely lost me Graham. If it's "junk" then perhaps you would like to answer the original question. The original posters asked what the regulations were. I believe I answered them correctly.

If all you do is criticise and be generally abusive then there's really not much point in you posting here at all.

OK Graham, can you answer my question instead of debunking those who tried?

If an Irish registered boat from Inishowen fishes commercially for Bass in Irish Territorial waters controlled by the Loughs Agency and lands and sells it's catch in both Northern Ireland and the Republic, is it breaking the law?

Wed Apr 02, 2008 9:23 pm

As mentioned previously - here is the scan of the newpaper article in this weeks Dungarvan People......

Note that he refused to say who sold them to him - would have thought you could have been "forced" to do so#??

from what i have read/searched and with a bit of guesswork i have come up with a thought(probably inaccurate, but never the less)

seeing as loughs agency is a cross boarder body, exercising a statutory remit for conservation, protection and development across the Foyle and Carlingford catchments, my guess is they would more than likely deem any bass caught in their catchment area and sold on as an illegal activity, but then again i could be completely wrong

best bet would be to send them a query general@loughs-agency.org

the image below shows the two regions that is covered by loughs agency

in 1990, in reponse to the declining number of irish sea bass the minister for the marine introduced a number of regulations to protect remaining fish. these regulations are still in place 2 day.

commercial fishin 4 bass.

the position with regard 2 commercial fishin for bass by an irish fishing vessel is clear, fishing 4 bass, takin bass using nets or even havin bass on board an irish fishing vessel is illegal.

sale of bass.

any bass sold or even offerd in ireland must have been imported into the country, it is illegal 2 sell irish caught sea bass.

if someone trys 2 sell u wild irsh bass in a shop, restaurant or market they are breakin the law. you can report this 2
report@irishbass.org

so 2 answer your question tanglerat, its is illegal and dont let any1 try 2 tell you any different
