Mr. R. Shakespeare, Senior Executive Officer outlined the proposed changes to the Beach Bye Laws (copy of Bye Laws circulated). Concerns were expressed by the Members’ regarding the bye law to prohibit nude bathing without the prior consent of the Council. Following discussion on this item, it was PROPOSED by Councillor N. Bhreathnach and SECONDED by Councillor T. Kivlehan and AGREED that the draft bye laws would go out on public display with the nude bathing clause omitted

I think we are better off waiting until the notice is in the Irish Times.

Yeah wait and see what's in the IT, I'm still very curious who proposed this rule and what purpose it had. It has to have come from somewhere.

i'd say it came from people who see anglers littering, drinking and acting downright dangerous around our coast. i'd say these people believe we are all like that.

I have no legal knowledge whatsoever so correct at will but I can't possibly see how they can do this.

Whatever about banning nudity (any number of reasons most would concur with) banning angling/walking/ball games etc won't fly.

Jd rang me with details and enquiries are underway. Jd's advice is good you should keep your powder dry until they publish the proposals and we can then respond in an organized way. In the meantime the Leinster Provincial Council IFSA will take up the matter. I will also raise it with the Executive of the Angling Council of Ireland and as Interim Administrator I will write to them on behalf of the Committee and all of you. If we wait for them to publish the proposals we can respond in a measured way and I all ready have the names and addresses of all the elected counselors. Don't forget there are many, so called anglers, out there who leave the beaches in a terrible state and we are all tarred with their brush. Wicklow Co Co brought in a bye law some years ago but have never tried to prohibit angling as they saw the response.

Know somebody who works in the council and heard something about this but as far as they're aware it will only apply to the area in between any blue flags on a beach ( which is really only common curtesy anyway ).

However, they may be wrong, and as has been said already you can't be sure until it's published.

If it's between the flags then fair enough as long as a lifeguard is on duty. If not then it's a problem.

Use the time available to organise yourselves. Then hit them with all you've got. Be prepared to picket the CC offices, waving rod and reel.....

It's an assault on our basic freedoms. You can count on me for help.

Lads being a shooter and having watched "Mc Rothweiller" abuse and legislate against shooters while he was minister for justice (ha ha ha). we need to hit them hard and early , both privately and legaly. We cant afford to underestimate this attempt to crush our rights to access the coast line. how bad can it be ? THE SHOOTING COMMUNITY IS NOW LEGISLATED FOR UNDER THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE BILL. Need I add that these are law abiding citizens like us . :evil: :evil: :evil:

i can see this one if successful, being used as a precedent to block further swathes of coastline access etc. :?

Maybe I should tie a few black flags around the many killiney beach signs dotted around the area with 'shore angling' written underneath ;)
As for the litter issue by so called anglers, what about the sheeit the ghettoblaster brigade lobsterfying themselves leave behind? One and the same mindset. They can hardly tar just fishermen.

A level head is required from here on in. With the site members and Leinster Council's support the problem can be sorted out with all parties happy with the final results.
The last thing we need now is posts going off in a rant and the Mods trying to keep things under control.

the litter argument is ridiculous. if someone litters prosecute them for littering. banning angling on such merits is extreme.

You highlighted a very important issue and well done to you. I'ts the comments that can followed by other posters I'd worry about. With the JD and Leinster Council (Tom Lillis) now aware of the issue it should be left in their hands until the notices are posted in the press.

This is not just a Dunlaoire/Rathdown issue this could spread. Once a precedence is set other Borough and County Councils could follow. The voice of the angler must be heard.
