Please sign this petition

Hi all I have started a petition and would like as many people from Ireland to sign it as possible, to date I have 238 signatures and only 3, including myself, from Ireland have signed it. The petition is self-explanatory Please support our fight against massive fish farm in Galway Bay so please go here and read the petition and if you agree, can't see any reason why you would not want to, please sign it and we might get someting done, at least the world will see what this country is like when it comes to protecting our rivers and their fish. The petition is located here http://www.thepetitionsite.com/939/465/ ... ct&fb_id=0

Thanks to all who take the trouble to look at it and even more thanks to those who sign it.

Regards Wez

PS I had originally posted this on the game fishing section, but there would seem to be nobody from there doing anything, I have decided to move the post to here, hope this is OK with the mods. Also just got a mail about this, see here http://www.fishupdate.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/19212

If this can be put into action it will clip Coveney's wings as he intended to allow the trawler fleet to slaughter our deep water fish, for the sole aim of selling them to the Chinese to turn into food for their farmed fish.

Don't be complacent - write, email and meet your TD’s, councillors and senators to express your outrage at the Irish government's proposal for a 15,000 ton 1,100 acres industrial salmon cage complex in Galway bay and lease it to a multinational salmon feedlot operator. This has the potential to create an ecological catastrophe in Galway bay - one of the sites is just one mile from this "pristine" beach and just over 4 miles from the cliffs of Moher which thousands of people visit every year. Can you imagine the view they could have from the cliffs of Moher - a thousand acres of salmon cages! Don’t allow the Irish government destroy Galway bay!
I have signed and shared the petition on FB too. It's easy and takes a few seconds, do it now.

Hi It was reported on the FISHupdate.com site. It is mainly for the commercial sector, but it allows us an insight into what is happening with the other side as it were. The report was about 3/4 weeks ago now. You might also be interested to know that BIM are asking aquaculture owners, small scale ones, to apply for grants, nice or what?

Best wishes Wez

Here is the report about IBM offering grants http://www.fishupdate.com/news/fullstor ... rants.html

Sorry but I cannot find the report about the Chinese farmed fish food. I can assure you that it is true though.

The Cliffs of Moher are now a UNESCO global geopark site:

They got that designation presumably with the aid of Government sponsorship to promote tourism. Do Coveney and Varadkar not talk to each other at all?

Have you been at the Cliffs of Moher within the past four years Hugo? It is destroyed already, nothing is left from the former charme, a totally commercialised rip off exercise and a shame to Ireland. This is a statement from visitors and I can only agree to that. I really feel ashamed too and I never ever will bring visitors out there from the land, the seaway seems to be the only option, but for how long?

Just signed the petition and and posted the link on Facebook. If possible I think people should also post it up on Facebook and twitter. This way the message can reach a much larger audience... Many people out there are oblivious to the proposed fish farm as well as the impact such a farm would have on the environment.

gerty86 - this is so true, and people are just not aware of the consequences, still too trusty and gullible when it comes to the truth, oh well, if we had known earlier - so typical. So glad to see some people being sensible and face up to the responsibilities! :)

Yesterday outside the BIM Seafood Summit at the Irish Management Institute in Sandyford. NSFAS made contact with some of our supporters in the last number of days and we were delighted to have representatives from Save Bantry Bay, Dee and Glyed Anglers, Dundalk Salmon Anglers, Ballintea Anglers, Inniskeen Village Anglers and North East Angling Federation join us in a symbolic protest. The event was attended by Minister Simon Coveney, Jason Whooley CEO of BIM, Gary Hooper Chief Executive, Aquaculture New Zealand, Gorjan Nikolik Rabobank and many more. All of those entering the facility had to pass the protest and slowed down to get a good look. Many passers by stopped to have a chat and offer their support. It was a very early start for all those joining us on the day and we thank them for again answering the call. A special note of thanks to the ladies living adjacent to the facility for bringing out flasks of tea and sandwiches, very much appreciated on such a cold morning.

this is the future plan of GMO salmon from a Norwegian company if they can go ahead. The end of our fishing for sure: http://www.fis.com/fis/worldnews/worldn ... +target%3D
Please sign the petition above and put a stop to the exploitation of Irish property through greedy investors and shareholders AGAIN! Why do we have such short memories? Did anyone learn from the just recent history? Please, even if you can't understand it yet - your children will! And then they will come back to you and blame you for ruining their future! SIGN THE PETITION!!! NOW, before it will be to late for good! You have been warned!
