How old would that fish have been?i dont know why anyone would want to keep such a fish!a few pictures and to see him swim away would have been just as satisfying. That lad looks like he could miss a meal or two

Fish of a lifetime, worth a few quid too I reckon. France has plenty of those that big each year, as has Ireland!!!

bet that fish could tell some stories! :D

 now thats a proper bass. 1 fillet off him would be heavier than my pb
just out of interest how many anglers would keep that fish if they had caught it????

No chance, I dont mind keeping the odd one for the table but when its a catch like that I think its better to take the pic and enjoy the fact hes still swimming about. Tho if I could take a slice and let him go it would be even better haha

a fish like that in Ireland would have a good 20 years of spawning done, probably enough eggs to repopulate the waters of Ireland if everyone survived  ,but the french ones grow quicker (warmer water and all that french food  )
That would feed me for a couple of weeks!!!

that is an awesome fish, but why assume he wanted to keep it? if that fish was caught on light plugging gera in fast flowing water there is a chance it was exhausted beyond the point of a successful release, i have seen that with double figure fish before, a lot of use a quick snap and release does in that situation as the fish is only capable of floating away.
people are sick of the c+r brigade preaching and getting up in arms at the sight of a dead bass, if that was a 20lb cod they would not be as quick to criticise the keeping of the fish, get over yourselves.

Have to agree with you .., I've hunted all my life and the only thing I'll keep is whatever I'm going to eat.I believe in managed conservation and think its the only way to sustain not just Bass but other species indigenous to our waters.

I don't even think you need to defend this French mans choice in whether the fish could be successfully returned or not as it was his choice only. This may be his first fish for all we know
I recently read an article about an English Angler who was the victim of a hate campaign as he had posted a pic of himself in a paper with a new English record Bass...
http://www.whitbyseaanglers.co.uk/uk-bass-record-broken

Quote from the article :
"hi all
I’m Steve cave
I’m the fella that cought this monster bass
i didn’t kill it just to get a record it was like any other fish in size and tasty.it was going on my table, just like what most other sea fishing Ppl do with there catch.
its held out that far cos it was heavy no other reason, I’m not digging at any 1 its not my style, but it looks like iv got to take all the crap lobed at me for catching a British record at 11pm not Noin it was a record until laterbut i spouse thats my fault for no Noin everything
any way for your info the fish has been given to the natural history museum so you can all go and see it if you like
theres my 2bobs worth
tight lines Ppl but dint put hooks on and bait.trust me its not worth the s##t that you will get if you get a record catch
Steve"

I think that its a sad day for Angling ,and humanity in general, when someone holding the British Bass shore record should have to revert to this.I would say to all people who feel the way they do about poor o'l Steve Cave that their time , energy (and sometime just pure old simple hate) would be better spent down on Industrialized docks when the factory ships come steaming in!!!!!
Hell we'd be much better of complaining/campaigning about how innocent people in Syria are being murdered and gunned down !

Tight lines everyone !

I got a 7 pounder last summer and put him back as he's my PB, took photos and that but i caught a 4pound one later that night and he was sufficient enough for me to eat and give a fillet to my grand father, 22 pounds id be in 2 minds because id be thinking about people not believing me if i didnt have a camera on the beach but i hate killing big fish simply because they survived so long
