SAI SAC 2nd Competition of 2006 - Little Killary report

Mon Mar 20, 2006 1:15 pm

Hello All,

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who travelled for the 2nd SAI SAC comp of 2006.

With brisk easterly breezes blowing for a few days leading up to the competition the committee were hoping for the best as an easterly can really dampen the fishing on this particular mark. When we arrived the worst was confirmed. It looked like a force 6 easterly, which is right to left in Killary. We also had 11 anglers which was going to be a little cramped.... not what you want in such a breeze.
For those than know this mark we pegged the venue from left to right with Peg 1 being closest to the sea and peg 11 stopping just left of the scubawest rib.

Peg positions were ( I think)

Peg 1 Seanibo
Peg 2 Steve
Peg 3 none
Peg 4 MB.3
Peg 5 Pete
Peg 6 KStaff
Peg 7 Coaster
Peg 8 MAC
Peg 9 JD
Peg 10 Aido
Peg 11 JP

With a few people finding a little difficulty finding the location we delayed the comp by 30 minutes. The off was 2:30 and given the conditions we decided to finish at 7pm as stated, as it was bitterly cold. Everyone was at their peg for 2:30 and away we went.

I decided not to break with tradition and was nursing a nice hangover. :)

Nothing was reported for the first 20 mins or so. About 40 mins in I looked to my right to see JP was trying to wressle a nice Ray from out of the kelp in front of him. Unfortunatly the kelp won... :( Though it was good to see that at least one fish decided to bite in such conditions and my spirts were lifted. A little later JP landed a Dogfish.

Aido was next with a Doggie.

Things seemed to quiten a little with no reports of fish on any pegs.

Next fish I saw was to Coaster. He caught a nice ray of 39cm. I think he caught it at about 4pm

About 30 mins later there was a Ray for KStaff. His was 38cm.

The fish that came next I have no idea of the order but I'll give it a try.
MB.3 was next with a double shot of Ray and Doggie. I am not sure what size the ray was but it looked about the same as the two previous. This took Mark into the lead.
KStaff was next with a Doggie to put things very close between himslef and Mark.
About 30 mins before the finish I managed 2 small whiting.
I'm not sure what Seanibo caught... sorry mate I didn't see your sheet.
It looked like it was going to be very close between MB.3 and Kstaff with the size of the Ray being the difference.
Last chance saloon..... Mark reels in a Ray and a whiting on the last cast........

So it was MB.3 with the win.... We'll done mate.

Just to confirm places and scores....

1st M.B3 226
2nd Kstaff 118
3rd Mac 90
4th Seaniebo 73
5th coaster 69
6th Jp/aidan 50

I would again, like to thank everyone for turning up. Fair play yo ye.

I would also like to thank MACTACKLE for the sponsorship

It was a ray, on the last cast and we forgot to do a biggest fish pool!!! Ah well. Good fishing considering the conditions.
It made a bit of a mess of the top of me finger too!

Ahhh,,,,, It was that ray that made a mess of your finger...

Good to see you guys caught off the Beach beside Killary. Given the calm look and it being very shallow I never bothered. We'll done. Did you find that beach you were looking for? Let me know if you want me to bring the OS map for the area over to you.
