I think that's what Jw intends - the club organised these kind of trips in the past.
People lost interest in the boat comps when the rules were changed to reflect how the national maters were fished.
The discussion originally started off-line when some of us club members thought we'd like to get back "on the water", so to speak.

the problem is no boat trips of any kind were organised last year, so
anything thats get some people to show up is better than nothing?

yes, i agree its an expensive business when you add everything up

im not sure the public interent is a good way to organise this

Would agree but now that it's up here time to decide if this is for master angler selection for SAI members or a way to encourage forum members to go fishing on boats as well as on shore?

Just my 2 cents not interested in arguments for the sake of it. :D

i just threw up one suggestion as to how to organise this. I know of several people who would be interested
in general fishing trips, don't know anyone that would participate in boat casting at anchor.

i agree the cost could be kept below 100 euros, but would be wary of cramming 8 onto a small
charter boat as you could spend most of the time unravelling tangles and not get the value for
the 50 euros

It might be useful if only people who are considering participating in the
trips post in this thread

The Master angler is no place for the Shark angler or the wreck angler,
its a place for a skilled angler who can cast from a boat .

The thing is club members lost interest in boat competitions when we started fishing at anchor (reflecting the national masters' rules).
Some members felt that they would like to get the boat side going again, but to be honest, qualifying for the national masters would be secondary.

my original suggestion was a bit confusing, i wasn't suggesting that shark trips would be part
of any competition, just boat trips organised by the club.
If we did book a boat from wicklow, this might involve fishing at anchor so could
be part of a competition.
with respect to other trips we could use some mixed system

OK I would be interested in any boat trips that are organised but not interested in entering any comps. :D

In fairness , I asked jw to get involved in helping me to drum up interest in the club boat scene. I think all feedback here is great and we will organise this to suit the majority. Any and all suggestions will be considered. Keep the ideas coming.

Thanks,
Donal.

Hi Don

Im totally ignorant to the boat scene so not too sure what is being discussed here but I would defo be up for giving it a go and doing some outings with the club weither it be competitive or for pleasure. Hopefully you guys can come to some kinda arrangement.

Hi
Hav'nt posted for a while, but just thought i would share my thoughts on the subject, as the boat fishing was the main reason i joined , and left the SAI club .
My personal opinion of priorities for members to go boat fishing ( charter) is as follows
1 . Cost, in these current times it really is the most important thing for everyone. The charter fee is only part of the days costs, bait/travel/food/ etc, can double the days cost.
2. A good charter boat and skipper, may contradict point 1 above, as getting a good boat and skipper may cost more, but is vital for a good days fishing.
3. Make it a pleasure fishing day, with a competition for those who want to compete onboard, not everyone wants to spend the day haulng up 20 cm whiting and poor cod etc. Appreciate having someone representing the SAI club in the masters is important, but at what cost to the enjoyment of a day out fishing, and a few fish for the table.
4. Start with only 3 outings in the year to see what responce there is , and actual attendance, a deposit is a must, as non shows always hit the people who attend in the pocket and causes resentment.

This subject must be discussed on the forum, after all it is a forum based club !!! Its the members that make or break it, and its no easy job for the moderators and club committee to make decisions, as there will ALWAYS be someone who thinks they know better. :D

Anyway, good luck on any futrure club outings ,
regards
screeming

Thanks for the feedback Martyn, we hope to finalise our shore comp venues and dates this weekend and once these are set we will be reaching out to a number of charters reserving dates for our boat comps. Hopefully we can finalise these in the next week or two then.
