First Boat competition July17th Kilmore Quay

Tue Jun 14, 2005 1:51 pm

Hi
I'd like to get moving on a boat competition
Seeing as we are in Kilmore Quay on the Saturday, how about hiring a charter on the Sunday evening and running a competition. Fishing from 5pm to 9pm or so? There is a slot available.

Thoughts please.

Ok
I'll put it like this.
I'm booking the boat for 17th July
Whether it is *official* SAI.org boat comp or not will be decided within a weekIf it is, rules to be decided. Maybe min 1.5 hrs anchored over clean ground. 1.5 minimum on the reefs?

Thoughts?

Ok
I have booked the boat in my name for the Sunday Evening (17th July)-weather permitting I'll be on it!
We will; decide within a week or so whether it will be an official SAC closed comp.

Purchased my first boat rod on Saturday and am looking to put a multiplier on there ahead of the trip in Kilmore.

A few questions to anyone with boat fishing knowledge,

The rod I bought is in the 30lb class, is that to heavy for Kilmore and should I bring a lighter rod that day?

I don't boat fish too often so cannot justify a huge output on a reel, what would you recommend, where would I buy it and how much approx? I would prefer a multiplier on the boat. What strength/type of line would you recommend also?

Thanks,

Donal.

Will deffo be there for the boat trip. Unfortunately a prior engagement involving a Ronan Keating Concert arranged I hasten to add by my missus has put paid to me participating in the shore comp on the previous day. Sorry lads.

Lads,
I'd love to fish the boat that weekend but as with the shore comp I won't be able to get there.

Sean Lavelle out of Belmullet (superb boat fishing up there) would be a good man to try for a future boat comp. Kieran knows the man well too. I'd say that would be a great weekends crack. Maybe Sat and Sun on the boat, couple of sessions in the pub on the Friday and Sat. Cracking scenery up there too.

JD, couple of questions about the boat comp:

Will we be making a bait stop for mackerel on the way out?

What rules will be in place as regards scoring etc?

Never fished out of Kilmore Quay, is there anything special I should know, rigs/tactics wise?

Thanks in advance and see you on Sun.

IFSA rules-will have sheet on day.

This will be a mix of reef on the drift and at anchor in the bay.
So think Cod pollack wrasse ling etc over the reefs.
Ray etc sand..
I often drop down to baited shrimp rigs over reefs to get species.
/me is a bit drunk- brother leaving work do tonite..
