is the club involved with the leinster council in trying to get the selection for the international team changed?? as we all know the master angler compo every year produces a poor team..

Would the team be any better if it was hand picked? The big problem with the international teams is a lack of money. A lot of the people who actually win club events to get to the Master Angler Competition already have to sub themselves as clubs are under severe financial restraints. A team representing Ireland should have enough sponsorship to afford the anglers a few weeks practice instead of them having to put their hands in their own pockets. There are plenty of good anglers about from which a team could be selected, but it does take skill to finish in the top 5 in the Masters.

How come even the most obscure sports in this country can attract sponsorships and lottery funding, government grants and the like?

What is it about sea angling that means we always get nothing - not even the right to a say in the fish stocks and how they're managed?

i cant help but wondering how much blame should be laid at the door of the IFSA with regard to how under funded and ill prepared our international teams are. there is approx. 130 affiliated clubs across the four provinces and if each has an average membership of 20 (very conservative estimate) anglers that would be 2600 anglers paying annual affiliation fees to the federation, without knowing exact figures, if this was only 10 euros each this would amount to 26000 euros annually shouldnt our international representatives be first in line for a bite out of this?

like i say my figures are only based on guesswork so i would welcome any correction or comment from anyone with more concrete information, someone from within the IFSA hierarchy perhaps?

It is a hell of a lot more than 10 EUro per person let me tell you but then so is the insurance bill!

never mind lack of money for teams, go to something simple and grass roots, .... you have to pay the federation for a specimen fish ' award' !!!

i think they need to start from the beginning with the small things then work up to the bigger things and get the financial house back in order.

it does ask the question what is the point in joining the ifsa ,and exactly what do they do for the angler, and those who represent there country.?and what exactly do they do with the money raised through club fees and levvies.???
