Bringing sandeel, squid and mackeral also, what else should I consider for this area.

Rod, reel with line, hooks weights and at least 1 rod :lol: :lol:


TBH a few crab would be handy.

the ground can be fairly snaggy, so bring some spare leads
and maybe ssome rotten bottoms like paper clips

Just Looking at the weather forecast on http://www.xcweather.co.uk and its giving 20-27mph easterly all day thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday.
with afternoon temps no more than 7 degrees, knowing Kilmore Quay well, and knowing what the skippers are like, I would guess this competition will be cancelled, has anyone checked with the skippers ?
I believe the Leinster league competition for Sunday is also touch and go also.

on or off goin down either way im bringing both shore and boat rods and maybe a bit of spinning!! so is there anyone else up for it if the boat is canceled.

its just a back up plan that's all hopefully the boats get out

I'm going down friday after work and staying wexford town with the folks.
I'll have at leat abass rod + a spinning rod as well as the boat gear.

Hi, the Seaweed.com is showing f4-5 n/e and xc 20mph, so they agree at the moment, but that has been changing each day.
They are looking at calling the sunday as it is a bait supplied comp, and they do not want to be left with 3000 od rag!!
Sunday acording to XC is looking fine.
Yes its going to be a little uncomfortable,but hey, thats going to mean extra groundbait !!!!
Would be a big financial hit for the charter boats to loose both days,
Fingers crossed it goes ahead

Looks like a force 4 to 5 for most of the day. According to wikipedia that means waves of around 6 feet with lots of white horses and some spray.

But I have been monitoring the weather websites for the last few days and on Sunday last it was supposed to rain today and tomorrow. In Galway at the moment there's hardly a cloud in the sky; it could well have changed totally by Saturday.

Whats important is if the wind is in the n/e giving it a slight offshore component. if thats the case the area known as the barrels near carnsore point would afford some shelter, and provide some reef fishing. If its straight east, different story, though the islands could provide shelter to the west.
As i said, its been changing , according to xc , sunday was going to be pants also, but its now showing 2-3 a nice day.

and the sea temperature was 7.8 degress celsius :shock:

maybe a prolonged spell of easterly weather could affect water temp?

it was a positively balmy :? 10 degrees down here John when we were out a couple of weeks back, despite the northerly. Imagine it's only the surface temp that's affected by the wind unless its setting up upwellings etc somehow. Any oceanographers/meterologists in the house?

Still looks like combat fishing, and since I tend not to fish the comps I think i'd prefer not to add to the tangles and general grief so I think I'll opt out of this one if that's ok.

Sorry, this is slightly off tipic, but these temp models from the Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory might be of interest ...

Yip NE or E 5 would be ok(scratching off the burrow share if necessary)- SE would be a problem . I'll be talking to Leslie Friday lunchtime.

Apologies but, due to the lack of certainty about us getting out, I am reluctantly going to pull out. A four hour drive tomorrow does not sound appealing without being sure we sail. If I wait 'til tomorrow I still will be charged for the accommodation I've booked.
