jw jd tomi and tommy,

which is a full trip for blue shark, if the weather is too rough for sharks,
we can fit plenty more for general fishing

John, don't worry about the weather too early. I was wathing news, and the forecast is:
Typical blue shark's weather on 23.08.08
It is not a matter of upper or lower class, but of being up a while and down a while...

6 gilled

Postby jw » Wed Aug 13, 2008 4:02 pm

we do have the option to target the 6 gilled shark at anchor rather than yawn yawn
blue shark :-) what do you guys think?

The mark is a big rocky reef surrounded by some patchy ground of stones and sand, the skipper first fished it for congers and has recently caught some to 35lbs here. It is a good hunting spot for skate and often has some mixed whitefish about, no doubt this is what draws the big skate into the area..

..after some discussion, it is better if we keep this as a blue shark meet as per
the title of the thread, but there is nothing to stop us trying to book a 6 gilled meet
later as well ??

John, is the blues grounds, are fare away from that "big rocky reef"?
If not, what if we split the trip between blues and that other spot...?

...or... if ye decide to book another trip (six giiled meet) I'm definitely IN 06.09.08 would be perfect

You need to fish at anchor for the 6 gilled, fishing for blues you would be drifting and need time to build up a slick.

shark

Postby jw » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:09 pm

there's a fair amount of labour setting up a blue shark slick so it would be
bad strategy to switch targets just as they come on the feed fishing on the bottom
hoping to get a scent trail going there, so the best strategy is to target the one species blue shark.

i will try and book a whole day to properly fish the bottom for conger, skate, six gill etc and post details shortly

i have come round to the view that it's better to book a two day trip
to target certain species given the climate we live in, that way based
on the forecast you can adjust fishing accordingly.

Weather permtting this trip will spend one day targetting six gilled shark at anchor :D
The mark is a big rocky reef surrounded by some patchy ground of stones and
sand, the skipper first fished it for congers and has recently caught some to 35lbs
here. It is a good hunting spot for skate and often has some mixed whitefish about,
no doubt this is what draws the big skate into the area. Day two will be on the
drift for blue shark. if the weather acts up, then the plans will be modified to fit in.

Tomaszek and jw are definates for both days, jd can you make both days, tomi
can you make it? otherwise pm me your address and ill return the deposit. anybody
else interested?

at the minute we have 4 definates for this, Tommy, tomi, jd and jw.
its not really possible to say what the weather will do till closer to the time.

is everybody still ok? is anyone else interested? Also, if its breezy we would
have the option of cancelling the trip or having a thornback ray fishing day
in the estuary what do you think?
