Carp Style "Back" Leads

Just wondered has anyone used this type of technique when shore fishing. Could be handy to nail baits on the bottom for dogs/rays and the like, could also keep your line below any floating weed etc.

Might give it a try this weekend to see if there's any difference.

use em on peirs or estuaries when fishin from a height...they can work alright but sometimes it is easier to just slide a lead down the line- otherwise u end up makin loads of rigs!

I thought they just clipped on and flew down the line anyway, at £4 a pop I think I'll just attach a 1oz to a snap link and slide down alright, maybe attach a flier too!

The other possibly better option for shore fishing is a flying backlead if you want to pin your baits down, put a bead then a 1oz barrel on you leader then attach you rig via a swivel. a stop knot on the leader about 15ft up from the swivel and when you cast the barrel lead will run back up the leader till the bead hits the stop then stay there. when the rig hits the water let it free fall as such to the bottom and the barrel will land nicely behind it holding it all down tight to the deck.

Back leads set from the tip after casting are generally only to pull the line down in the water table so as wary fish wont swim into it and get spooked, maybe not such an issue in the average sea angling situ. You also need to rem if sliding from the tip that any hump and bumps or weed/snags etc on the bottom between the rig and the back lead will have the line pulled down against/directly over the top of them where it could easily foul not to mention affect bite recognition. If you are gonna do it from the tip id say the best place is on clean ground.

sliding leads down line is a good way to avoid boats on beaches and piers...
