What Knots, Where?

Mon Feb 26, 2007 2:40 pm

Just curious to what knots people are using and where? ... Rig making i used the improved clich but have started to use the uni knot instead...for my shcokleader i use the double surgeons knots and mayb the perfection loop if i have the patience...dont even mention the bimini   ...i try and practise my knots and learn new 1s... but mainly the ones i use are the improved clinch, uni knot, surgeons, double surgeons, perfection loop, arbor knot (for line 2 reel)..and the blood knot for joining lines

i always use the bimini twist on my shock leader for big conger and smoothies its the best !!

a bimini hitch is extremely strong and much easier to tie than the twist- i will never even bother learning the twist. uniknots for snood to swivels and hooks when using crab/ sandeel or big baits(pennells etc). 3 turns for lines of 25lb +. 4 turns for 20/ 15 and 12lb lines. 5 for 10lb. less than 10 gets 6 turns. blood knot to hook for everything else. for lines over 30lb try the knot used by Ronald on his conger traces for heavy lines- its similar to a 2 turn uniknot. it works very well on shockleder etc and soft limp rig bodies like sakuma- a blood knot slips. uniknot distorts the line too much. the grinner knot is no friend of mine! only use it for jioning lines of equal diameter/ tapered shockleader/ mainline to spool connection.

blood knot used for snoods hooks on the beach- sand seriously affects knot strenght on uniknot. likewise with the bimini hitch- change your reel/spool rather than retie the knot.

hope this lot helps. happy fishin!

Hi,i am new here, just wonder anybody here know how to do an FG knots? Its used to join braided to mono leader with a really slim knot(slimer than uni and albright) to pass your guides.Mainly used for offshore jigging.Verry strong but a bit complicated to tied.Invented by japanese jigger.

here there are good anglers that use bloodknots for everything. either a 4 turn half blood or a 3 turn tucked blood. it certainly keeps things simpler- meant to say. personally i just fed up with them! i could bust them with my hands in the heavier breaking strains. Paul Kerry uses em and he has made record casts so they cant be that bad?! :)
