has anybody ever fished down in and around the harbour im working at the minute in titanic quarter at the back of the odyessy and have noticed some cormants swimming about and diving so there must be fish about and maybe the possibility of congers as there is a lot of old structures at the waters edge

I'd say your Main Problem will be Crabs, But if you can get by them I'd hedge my bets on Flounders, Whiting and Coalies. Does the Lagan have a Run of Eels? Has anyone ever had one from the Lagan Estuary (Say Holywood up)???

Most rivers around the lough have eels i even seen them once at a small stream at the Gobbins, i have seen them caught in the smolt trap down at Stranmillis weir.

Therefore they should fall to Sea Angling Tactics at some point.

at kinnegar in holwood there is a stretch the locals call 'the butts'. used to catch countless silver eels and flounder from here, also literally hundreds of mullet rising and jumping all round u.

Fri Feb 23, 2007 11:54 pm
completely different now drew, although i bet on a good day u would still catch a lot of flounder. the place was always teaming with them. have to say i haven't fished it for a few years now.

Damn straight, there's no reason (Except the Pollution, and ever declining fish stocks), that there shouldn't be a few fish about it. 8)
Good Luck Mate. :D

well drew the whole of my life holywood beach has been polluted and i reckon the situation has improved if anything. but fish decline because of commercial fishing is hitting us all hard. now that i catch and release my fish, why not fish the likes of kinnegar. definately threw up the odd suprise for me starting out in fishing.

We done a fish species survey a couple of years ago between the weir in belfast up to stranmillis weir 4km stretch produced 12 species but flounder ,eels, sea trout ,brown trout, salmon ,mullet ,were the most catchable size .herring fry ,sprats ,sand gobies ,sand smelt, bream and a stray perch all turned up .

There is a spot beside the M2 on the North Foreshore which I reckon holds some flatties.
I pass it every morning on the way to work (just to your left when you come onto the M2 at Greencastle). There are always guys digging bait at low tide and it is really clean ground.
I'm hoping to give it a bash this year...
Anyone ever tried it?

I`ve fished Holywood a few times lately and had about 6 flounder to just over 1lb.I`ll try it again at different times of the year to see when it fishes best.
