Did anyone ever catch a pipefish! recently while up on Benone beach i came across a lot of them washed up and still alive i picked one up and measured it 45cm now what i am thinking if you can catch a couple of these while fishing a competition there are lot of points to be had I inspected the pipefish and could not find a mouth, another taught came to me if one of these was fouled hooked would it be accepted there is no ruling on pipefish not being allowed. Also in general fish foul hooked in the head area are allowed. Can you see my point.

Hi paul,
as a kid I caught a few off the break water in Wexford Harbour. Tiny nit of rag on a size 12 hook, I think.

(I know you seen them, this is just for those who havent)
They have a head a bit like a Seahorse...same kind of long tubed mouth....longish body...they look more like a big worm.
I have never seen any really long ones. Never seen one on the hook even (foul or otherwise) only ever seen them on the shore among the weed after a big blow.
Paul, a counter IMHO is any fish hooked foreward of the gills....Kris found that out after landing a double figure Cod hooked through the tail   ask him about it.
Tom.

There was alot been got at the home internationals in montrose last year and one even turned out to be a new scottish record. But then the next few days any pipe fish that was caught wouldnt of counted because there was so many you were even foul hooking them in the way in.

You can often catch these by hand in areas of heave kelp. I have seen a lot of them after a blow that leaves weed on the beach.
