Galway this Saturday 17th Feb?

Hi

Foot is better but no rock hopping or walking on sandy beaches etc. allowed so I am minded to waste an hour or two around 5 pm this coming Saturday in Galway. HW (4.8 metre tide!) is at 17:21 and weather conditions look very favourable, i.e. light winds and dry. I was thinking of installing myself on the promenade in front of the aquarium?

Big question: is there anything being caught there and if so, on what bait?

In regard to your question, my answer in short is.....no! there is nothing there. if however you are determined to go fishing, plain mack will suffice as bait. Its a strange venue so it just might produce. i very much doubt it though.

P.S. if u wanna go mullet bashing send me a pm i have a couple of spots that might be very worth trying :wink:

the prom hasnt been fishing too well lately :(

fish baits usually work best preferably mackerel

the only mark that seems to be producing anything is here.. (X marks the spot)
species caught here in the last few weeks are: pollock, coalfish, dogfish, flounder and 5 bearded rockling

Just a quick question, would I break an ankle there or at high water would I be able to fish off the prom without too many tackle losses on the rocks below? I presume the rockling were caught on the bottom "in the suds"?

obviously steve knows each rock like the back of his hand - but until he gets back to you, shreds this etc.

for that spot on the map - just stay away from the groynes thats where most of the rocks are about - there is sand about 70 meters out - and im sure more after that

the recent storms have thrown up a good bit of shingle in close - but nothing too serious

at high water more of your problem will be the walkers - especially if the tide is putting you close in at the sea wall behind you - 5pm there will be plenty about - especially if the weather is mild enough

to avoid them will mean movement - which you dont want to do - and to reposition off the groynes - maybe your well able to adapt your cast without having to manouver too much

might swing by and see how your getting on if im about

at that mark there is a shelter with stepson the right hand side going down..

directly in front of you there is the rocks going out.. at high tide you will be able to fish from a large(ish) rock and cast to the right 15-30 degrees and its shingle for 10-15 yrds and clean sand for about 200yrds or so..

you should have no worries about your ankle/foot.. if your a bit weary about it you can fish mark 6 from the tarmac area to the left(the grey area) there is a bit of rough ground at about 100yrds but if you cast at about 20-30 degrees to the right you should be ok...

or you could always fish silverstrand from the path..
you should have no problem fishing there.. just keep your bait covered(dogs)
fish from behind the steps in the middle of the beach.. fish baits seem to be working best there at the moment..
