Hi lads
another stupid question how can you tell diffrence between a strap conger and an ordinary eel the reason i ask is that we used to catch huge eels of a trawler in wexford town when we were kids they were so thick that they couldnt feck up your trace and line we just thought they were ordinary eels

wait til you catch a fairly decent conger ! , and believe me then you will know the difference !! :D

well......I've never seen a silver eel more than a meter long and the silver eels head is a little more rounded than the congers which have quite blunt nose.

silver eels mouths tend to be quite small compared to the rest of their body

in conger the upper lip protrudes above the lower, in silver/freshwater eels the bottom lip protrudes

Congers are noticeably bluer in colour

congers dorsal starts in line with its pectoral fin. A fresh water eels starts well back.
