Hi Chris

Believe it or not, most people fish up near the rocks / road to the pier, certinaly no further along than the exit of the small stream. Can throw up flatties and sea trout, often you get coalfish as well in winter. at the very far end, for an hour either side of low water you can scratch for sea trout with sand eels, and there is apparently the occasional large bass in there but I've never seen one. Did land a small tope there however...

It looks like the general area is not fishing well at present. As Kieran says the prom throws up the odd sea-trout in season on a incoming tide as does the estuary at the Moy. You used to get plenty of flounders the odd plaice and dab on the beach mainly beside the small river, but these seem to have disappeared in recent years ( Lots of seals in the area and surfers during the day). It does get the odd bass in a good strong surf but usually only between early May , early Oct and I would be more than amazed if a Bass was caught that far up the country this time of year (but who knows). Mackerel, sand-eel and lug are the best baits in my opinion, but I would try fishing the last few hours of the dropping tide and early rising tide in darkness. You can get the odd doggie and small Pollock but mainly only in summer. Its a strange place in that when the commerical fishing in the bay and salmon netting was taking place there was more fish. The bay is rarely trawled now and yet the fish don't seem to have come back. If you are going for flats move along the beach with light gear using a rolling lead, otherwise you need distance to get enough water depth for any chance of something better. Never herd of a coddling caught of this beach but did catch a small one from the pier a few years back. Should be whiting, coalies, dogs and odd flounder this time of year. I hope you fish it as you may confirm if as I suspect its well past its glory days or things may be improving.
