dunno where u can get em, im in waterford..but the wire traces are the way 2 go... have a normal trace line made up (50/60 lb mono) but using stronger swivels and a wire trace instead of a snood...ideally not 2 long a wire trace u keep as much contact with ur bait as possible... size 6 cox and rawle meat hooks are a nice size hook...and mackeral flappers, half macks or whole herring i think it is for bait..ive never used that tho... some people use 100lb mono instead of wire traces but i find that wears of the rocks fairly handy cause conger ground is rough out...wire is more durable... hope that helped

You can indeed catch conger in Howth! Many people say that the biggest ones are on the east pier but if you want to catch them go to the west pier. Walk to the end and to your right you will see a smaller sub-pier with a green light on it. Fish literally right under this structure. Last two sessions I had here I have had bites almost after a few minutes. Just watch out for the seal! Mackerel Flapper on a 6/0 hook is best. I think there is a hole under the structure on the side facing the restaurant. It is very early in the year, personally I would give it a few months!

agree with George. know of a few good fish that have come from the east pier though. had a 25lb+ fish off west pier in the rocks that make up the structure.
