You were on the North beach then, you need to go further through the town from the Dublin end to get to the South Beach.
I like the North beach myself, if you go right down the end of it you can get some really good fish but you want to be rigged up with rotten bottoms and lots of lead.
I've never blanked in Greystones, but then I tend to fish all-nighters there, never have much luck anywhere in the day time.

Thans Eoinmag .... might try both.

I know I'm showing my ignorance here but what are rotton bottoms? I assume the 'lots of lead' is to get out nice 'n far?

It's rough ground, lots of snags and rocks.

Rotten bottoms are rigs that allow the lead to be torn off when it snags, thus losing your lead but keeping your fish and the main trace and tackle. It's a sacrificial link that is supposed to be the first thing to break.
Lot's of leads because with really rough ground you can expect to get caught in something and lose a lead almost every cast, who cares as long as you don't lose your fish right?
If you want to avoid this problem on that beach stay the harbour side of the archway, once you go past the archway you're into rough ground and there's a large snag about 50m out.

Back to the original question about the South beach, I believe it's fishing very well at the moment. Ask anyone in the town how to get to the South Beach.
I fished it about three weeks ago and it turned in a few, don't cast out far you'll just catch weed, don't go much further than about 70m and you should get a few.
Lot's of coalies when I was there last.
