I would use both most of the time i dont like snap swivels they snap out somtimes. genie clips i reckon are the best especially if your double patting.

Word of warning, no matter what and no matter how cheap, do not ever use any cheap imitation Genie clips. You run the risk of leads and traces flying everywhere. Those imitations are made from v soft steel and can be picked up very cheap on ebay. Avoid like the plague.

i almost always use either a brekaway link or a gemini genie clip.
i normally use the breakaway on the bottom of the rigs for the lead, as sometimes the loop on some leads is so thick that it can leave the genie clip very slightly open and weaken it.

I've been using Q-F swivels for years. Never had one fail. Very quick to change rigs quickly, especially when you have cold hands. You wouldn't wan to be loosing too many of them though ...

I use a swivel on the end of the shockleader and then the rig gets attached via a fast link to the swivel, the only knot I have to tie on a beach is my shockleader to my main line using an albright.

Use a genie clip as these can be run through the rings of your rod so can be already tied on the reel. Don't use the the ones for clipping down the rig.The swivel small enough aren't reliable for casting and its to easy not to clip them up.

breakaway link is the best. it's strong, quick and not too expensive. for lighter rigs/ set ups with light leads, a 35lb test genie snood clip is ideal.

Hi Mark,
Does the the breakaway clip go through your rod rings I haven't used them in while but they have a larger profile that the genie clip.

yeah it will goo through any standard tip ring on a beachcaster.

gemini or easy links dont waste your time with swivels they will only break if you apply to much power to them, it has happened me and im not even the strongest caster in the world.

ok, think I'll go with the easy link, they will be quicker in changing rigs as well. Thanks for all the help lads.
just another question, would snaplinks be ok for spinning/lure fishing then?
Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:45 pm
snaplinks are alright for spinning. better to get the berkley power snaps though. snaplinks can bend open under pressure whether casting or playing the fish of the day. personally i avoid them 9 times out of ten.

thanks again for all the help, guess I just have to back to foyle angling for a few bits and bobs

I use 80lb swivels and they're fine way I see it is that if 50/60lb shock can hold out then an 80lb swivel will too.
It doesn't bother me that I don't have the shocks pretied, if I lose the terminal and shockleader I have to retie one anyway, at the end of the day it's the only knot I tie anyway, I don't matchfish so it's fast enough for me at the end of the day.

I used to use Gemini links but have had rigs unclip (not the imitations). Think it's when get a hold and they turn and unclip under pressure. Use them for lead links though. I now use 2/0 oval attached to shockleader and an oval at the top of the rig. Safe and secure and won't bend out. Ovals are Veals or Mustad for quality.

I use a large swivel on the end of the shockleader which goes through the rings easy enough and a large (100lb) interlock swivel attached to the rig which means rig changing is quick enough for me. Bought loads of the interlock swivels on ebay one time so always tie them on to the rigs whem making them. 100lb breaking strain should outlast the 50lb leader. At the other end of the rig i attach mustad ovals, which again i bought a box of at discount.
