Whats the best fixed spool beach reel?

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are. I've just bought one of the longer continental type rods and am looking for a fixed spool reel to match it.

Ideally I'd like one with a spare spool and very good line lay & power roller so there would be no problems using braid. Any suggestions much appreciated :)

try the penn surfmaster range...ive got the new 850 comin 2 me cause i was so impressed with the 70

Personally I would avoid the surfmasters, bad reel. They have a problem of uncoiling line when windy and going uner the spool. I would recommend Shimano Biomaster or Ultegra, Daiwa and grauvell do some good reels too.
The Daiwa Emblem Pro is an excellent reel, but expensive.

Have heard of Penn giving trouble but the new model may be stronger.

get an Ian Golds fixed spool. they are excellent for what you want to do. i have used one over a year and have not had any line twist at all. lovely reel for the job and casts an absolute dream.

I have the Daiwa Emblem But if you drop it in sand you might as well pack up and go home to wash it cause it's a bugger to clean !

Using a Shimano Aerlex at the moment and no problems.....

shimano ultegra for most of the beach work, some of the less expensive reels from grauvell and daiwa and shimano are worth a shot too. i cant really comment on the penn surfmaster(new one) as i havent used one yet, but i wasnt a fan of the last one they had due to knowing too many people who had problems with them. hopefully though these have been ironed out in the new one, but the only slightly worrying thing is, if they have improved them, why are they cheaper, it makes you think that corners are being cut somewhere...?
