Normally used as a fresh water reel, so I am unsure how it will stand up to the salty stuff. If it can stand up to the salt, I would think that it would be nice for a bit of light beach work and some spinning.

Mark,

I've got the 8000 GTE Baitrunner......had it about 4 years....had one before and swapped it for something....bought the present one out of regret.

As a saltwater reel they wont take a lot of abuse....they seem to be water tight enough though....I just rinse mine off under the tap....its not got a mark on it anywhere and I've not once had to get in and fix anything, its as the day I got it.

As to performance....100% cant fault it...the baitrunner system is fantastic on them and the drag is superb too....not cheap, but quality never is.

Is the 8000 GTE Baitrunner not a fresh water reel for carp fishing?

it may be...I bought it for saltwater spinning, its ideal for the job...I also have a Big Baitrunner Long Cast, that thing was meant for Carp..big Carp! I have had that one for about 2 years and its never seen water yet, its a beast of a thing..spool the size of a dustbin

Yeah, I had a look at it, its a beast, would be more at home with a beachcaster, unless you plan fishing tope with it!! :o

Baitrunners may be used by carp anglers in the main these days but they are by no means designed for that. The first baitrunner where developed for sea fishing that is why they where called seaspin baitrunner (these orig model are still manufactured for those that prefer a front drag). LIke any reel it deserves to be looked after and if it is it will last forever. I have used them for years with no probs.

use the baitrunner 8000 gte myself at sea, it has slight rust on exposed parts around the handle but this is purely due to lack of care on my part!
cant fault them at all
