Leader knots?

what knots do ye guys use 4 shock leaders? im havin trouble with the blood knot i normally use...

i use this one exept i use more turns of the mainline.

i need to learn how to tie the bimini twist though :shock: 8)

Same as the one above, i like it as it not too big to go through the guides.

ive used this knot but turned to the bimini twist when i lost a good bull huss because my leader knot broke.never had a problem since

the bimini twist is by far the strongest knot i have ever used and for fishing cant be beaten ,it has a much higher breaking point than most other fishing knots and the fact it stretches can help get out of snags aswell.cheers john

Agree with John 100% on this, I used to use the knot shown at the top of the page, then John showed me how to tie a bimini twist - Brilliant 8)

spider hitch , same principal as bimini twist but a lot easier to tie, a lot stronger than standard leader knots but not as strong as bimini

ive been racking my brain tryin 2 do that knot...found various animations but mess it up everytime...and i aint thick lol ;P .... what in gods name is the tag end?? and when i eventually look like ive done it the knot is always massive and ends up crap...any websites defin it better?

im now usin the albright knot..seems ok

this is the one i use most of the time if i am using 50lb shock its called the surgeons knot i have used it in fly fishing and its very handy if you have a Birdie as i use it to on 15 lb line very fast knot means that you have more time fishing

that's a 2 turn one tho i use a 3 turn for sea fishing if i am using tapered shock leader then it a double blood knot

Tied and used the spider hitch for the first time today have to say im very impressed by it and handy enough to tie. Had to pull for a break the std knot on the shock broke off and i got the spider hitch back lol. The bimini is next...

Merv that looks like a water knort. I would normally use it to tie a lighter hooklength when float fishing (mainly coarse)

Have changed recently from the bimini twist which I've used for past 3 years back to a spider hitch ( reasons are mentioned in that other post... i.e. bimini twist is too strong and the mainline becomes badly damaged/kinked/weakened when pulling for a break - eventually the weakest part of the mailine gives first).

The end result is that I found myself respooling reels everytime I pulled for a break with the bimini, the spider hitch is almost as strong but gives a "little earlier" and doesn't weaken and kink the mainline as much...

For the leader end an albright knot is hard to beat especially for occasions when you might use stiff leaders of 80lbs and above which can be a b!t@h to knot well with other knots

Above 50lb mainline use a Bimini its mostly a Big Game knot. For surf fishing where your mainline is 15lb to 30lb then the Spider Hitch is better IMHO you can tie it faster and it will break out of snags without costing you yards of lost mainline.

BTW...the tag end is the little end that sticks out of most knots and needs to be cut off afterwards.

The leader knot diagram that Fishinmidget posted is the same knot I use too, never found a better one yet.
