I was just wondering.... what type of fishing is braid line used for? is it better then mono?...expensive?.... does it make a fight better on light tackle say a spinning rod?.... does it cast better then mono?

great for lure fishin and flattie fishin where u need to see the bites. it has zero strech and casts really well because of its fine daimeter. i use 30lb spiderwire stealth and it is great. if u dont want to pay an arm and a leg for it go to ebay.com and you should b able to get some cheap.

Brilliant for lure and plug fishing but not any mepps type baits as they tend to unravel it. Great over sand either from shore or boat. Not suitable over rocks from boat as a small nick can tear it without notice and can result in losing good fish.
If using it off the shore buy a good quality like Spiderwire. It is expensive but lasts much loner that nylon line. Cheap braid from my experience is not worth a curse. If you know anybody going to the USA it is much cheaper there.

Would i need to connect 3ft or so of clear mono onto the braid just before the plug/spinner...

i dont usually add any mono for spinning, if you do add a swivel between the mono and braid, i find braid direct to mono causes the braid to dig into the mono and snap it under less tension than you would expect. i use power pro.
i use braid for all my spinning and also for all my pollock and wrasse fishing.
