hi guys just wondering what peoples thoughts are on braids as there are so many to choose from. i use fireline and whiplash for boat fishing on multiplier, i have had big problems with dyna cable and a mate lost 300 yards of whiplash day after he bought to bad birds nest. i wanna start using braid for fixed spool casting and was looking advice on what the rest of u use and what strength.

I've being using fireline for awhile now on fixed spool and have no problems with it. But the one thing I would say is braid is no good for rough ground bottom fishing.

i use power pro 30 and 50lbs, used it for pollock, wrasse, bass, conger etc. no problems. but agree with scara its not the best for rough ground generally

is it true that the reel matters in this its just i read a post lately sayin u need a good reel and if u use braid the lower the strength the further it casts. thanks for advice by the way guys.

lower strenght generally means lower diameter which will mean better distance on a fixed spool reel. i dont use a special reel. any good strong FS reel will do the job, i have braid on about 6 or 7 different spools for wrasse, pike, feeder etc and they all handle it and cast well.

for spinning for bass, pollock ect 30lbs power pro would be my choice. for heavy pike lure fishing or conger etc i use 50lbs

i use 30lb spiderwire stealth and find it very good and supple.

I have found that a reel with good line-lay is important, otherwise you can get the braid coming off in loops during a cast and gathering in the rod rings, which ruins your day. Not over-filling the spool can help with this.

had problems when going too light on braid when beachcasting, tried 20lb powerpro which was fine for spinning, but kept gettin bad windknots and problems with it coming off the reel etc on the beachcaster
