Maddies and club rules

i heard of a number of clubs banning the use of maddies during compo's anyone else heard of this any any suggestions why???

Is this at a particular time of year? They spawn around now, I think.

i dont know just heard that one of the clubs around my way has them band from compos

You can get buckets of them down near me if you were so inclined. To be honest I've given up on them. I never ever caught a single thing on them. They are also very fiddly really.

some may ban them as they are seen as a big advantage on some venues and many people may not have access or knowledge as to how to get them....or afford them in that case too.

Yes, we in South Shore have a ban on Maddie's in our club competitions,from November to April because they are less prolific and a pain to dig at this time of year.The amount of beach that is dug for so little it just destroys the bait beds. Also rag spawn at this time of the year that why they turn a pissy green.I would like to know lads opinion on this do they think its right to ban certain baits or just any bait goes. Oh by the way we also ban crab from Nov to April.

I think bait bans are bad. I know baits such as whiterag are a distinct advantage for anglers as they are hard to get and brilliant bait. But the angler who has bait such as whites and maddies has gone to a further effort to ensure they catch fish which should be rewarded, unlike other anglers who may be too lazy and prefer bans. I know not all anglers who cant get these baits are lazy and due to time and expense find it hard to get these baits.

rag spawn at this time of year , get slimey change colour , shouldnt really be dug, maddies seem to be alright though, but you just cant beat the old whites
