Hooks!!?

Just wondering lads what yee think are the most reliable/best hooks around....

Kamasan B940s, very sharp and reliable. Not too expensive if bought in boxes of 100

Agree with Estuary lad here. Buy boxes of 100. Only way to go.

You can get B940s at http://www.jims.org.uk for £6.95 for a box of 100 size 1

You can get from the same site, black Aberdeens for 1.95 for a box of 100 size 1.

They are identical to the B940s - at least I could not distinguish between the knock-offs and the pukker ones I bought as a packet of 10 (for about the same price!), and I'm pretty sure the fish couldn't tell the difference either :D

If, like me, you want to buy every size from a 4 to a 6/0, and O'Shaughnessy's up to 8/0, then these savings can make sense. Now, when it comes to a selection of circle hooks.......I have more hooks than I can shake a stick at :oops:

ye b940's you cant beat them, recently for the coalies ive been using crab hooks. load each one up with a small mussel bait, shape the bait the the shape of the hook leave the hook end exposed and you hardly miss a fish once they hit it

cheapest hooks on ebay...but some r fakes

[/quote]I like mustad 3262 there easy ta pull out ov snags easy to reshape allright there not strong but they have a big barb so that if the hook straightens theres a good chance it will still hold the fish dont like loosing lots a rigs :idea:

If I had to limit myself to one type of hook, it would be the Kamasn B940.

The Gemakatsu G-Point hooks are sharper but alot more expensive :evil:

I also use circle hooks, but they are a nightmare to get a worm onto, semi-circles are better but harder to get.

ya g-points are a excellent hook but too expensive to be using once, I usually only use a hook for one session and then cut up the rig. can be time consuming!

Small Black Aberdeens Cover Most of My Fishing, When I need Something Bigger I tend to go for Sakuma Manta's in 3/0.

mustad nordic bends for match fishing, kamsan b940 for clipped rigs, sakuma manta's size 2 and 3/0 for rough ground and cox and rawle 6/0 for conger :D :D

For larger fish you won't go wrong with the Varivas Big Mouth range. They are quite fine in the wire, very strong and with a wide gape. Perfect for large baits, and spot on for sandeel, especially when bass fishing, as they are quite light and don't effect the movement of the bait too much. I tend to use them in smaller sizes too for general fishing. Only available from Veals though.

Use the varivas big mouths and viking hooks alot for large baits with 2/0 to 4/0 penels. Varivas are alot sharper and stronger and an exellent hook. Viking are more liking to bend out of a snag but still bring in a fish but loose there point and aren't as sharp to begin with. I've started to experiment with semicirculars varivas hooks. Hopefully in the summer this will make for better return of rays and also quicker return which would also up the amount of fish caught as ray fishing occurs in bursts.

I have the B940s but prefer them for smaller baits. The shortshank B940s are great for scratching and are said to be easier for a fish to mouth.

mustads aberdeen, the 3261 bln(black nickel) are almost identical to b940's and a good deal cheaper too, avilable in boxes of 25 altho more often than not very hard to come by.
