Hi lads wat is the best multiplier for casting ive heard of the penn 525 but wat is the best model?

i think it depends more on retrieval..

whether casting competition, over rough ground or sand..

mag versions have more control over casting though

Wats your views on the penn magxtra?

i dont have the mag xtra but i do have a 525 and a super mag and they r dead easy to handle if that is any thing to go by real easy to cast and control

I have 2 525 mags and 4 525 supermags, all with different lines on them  8) 8)

I also have the 2 Florida mag elites which I used on bass rods, 1 with 12lb line and 1 with 15lb line  8) 8)

I have 1 slosh shv 20 and 1 slosh shv 30. Again both have different lines on them, 25lb and 30lb. These I use over rough ground

Out of the 2 reels types I prefare the Penn 525's. I hate bringing dogs or even double dogs etc in from distance on the mag elites as at the end of the retrieve my arm is sore winding and pumping. The Penn's on the other hand, well you just keep winding, they could pull the QE2 in with the dogs with no trouble. The Penn's feel to me, a great deal stronger both in the gearing and the build quality, but then that's only my opinion.  8) I'm sure you will have a lot of posting saying the opposite.

It's really down to your own preferences, what your doing with it and if you only looking 1 reel to do all. If it is an all round reel your looking for then I would take the 525's over the mag elites anyday, but again that's only my opinion.

I second that. I have both the 525 and the Supermag, a couple of Mag elites, a Sportsmag and numerous 5000-6000 sized Abus amongst others. Had Sloshes and got rid as hated them TBH. For ease of use, reliability and cranking power its hard to look any further than one from the 525 magged range. The Abus on the other hand are also lovely reels but a little more sensitive and not up to the same amount of abuse you could give a 525. For pure casting performance however, a well set up mag elite/sportsmag cant be beaten.

I would agree with N&G on this.

I have 2 Abu Sports Mags, a 525 Super Mag and a SLOSH30.

I tend to use the Sports Mags for light fishing on the beach and if I want to get a bit of distance (shut up Lee  ). The Supermag is also well-suited to the beach but it is a bit heavier.

The Supermag also works very well over rough ground and with heavy enough line it can easily deal with congers.

The SLOSH30 is a serious work-horse and I reserve this for congers and really rough ground fishing.

Both the Supermag and SLOSH30 can be used for boat fishing too.

If you want a recommendation, I would advise you to go for the Penn Supermag as it will give you more options than the others.

all rounder - penn 525, either the cheaper gs (harder to control) or any of the magged versions.
clean beach for flats etc - daiwa 7ht or abu 6500 mag elite
rough stuff - penn 525 or 535 mag
the later two also do well for uptiding or lighter downtiding on the boat
personally never got on well with the daiwa slosh range, but many love them

Overall Penn is better but I just love my ABU's, they feel much more balanced.

hairy - u get a penn 525gsmag - it has mags
the penn 525gs has no mags, they are lively but easy enough to use, i have 3 of them kicking around, they were the first in the 525 range brought out

for a casting reel i would reccomend a abu or 7ht turbo.

i have just got a slosh x 20 and they look the dogs knackers for casting and retrivial power.a bit lively though.
