daiwa emcast plus

Planning to buy a daiwa emcast plus, just wondering what size is most suitable to buy for general beach fishing? 4500,6000....

I have an Emcast 6000, its been put through some serious abuse this past couple of years but hasnt let me down yet. It is some cranking tool BTW with a massive handle to really get your paws around. Its my preferred tool for really nasty ground as you can winch everything up and away from danger with ease.

Have an Emcast 6000 too. Lovely fixed spool reel and can't justify spending more money than that on a fixed spool either. Great reel, perfect size for beachcasting. Line lay is superb, have been using it with 8lb diameter braid and have no problems with it bedding in or anything.

I use 30lb PowerPro on mine and it absolutely flies.

Planning to pick one up on ebay for $90 inc. postage, a good price?

Its ok, not much cheaper than you would get in the shops TBH but its not dear at that either by any means.

I've used the brother in laws Emcast-Pro on occasion and I've found it to be a fairly decent reel. On the downside I think its a bit on the heavy side and the bail arm doesn't flip over automatically (at least on the one I've used at any rate).

I use a Grauvell Zeus Z5000. It's a fair bit pricier at 120 yoyos but it comes with 3 spools with one with a narrow profile for braid.

Automatic flip over bail arms are more useful on spinning reels than Beachcasters TBH, I wouldnt use it as a criticism of the reel. They may be heavy but they are bomb proof, save a rinse under the tap every couple of months, Ive done nothing to mine in over two years. They come with a spare spool too. Grauvell Zeus are a fine reel and probably next on the list for a FS purchase for me but theres a fair old difference in price as you say. I personally dont think you can do better for the money TBH, they are an awesome cranking machine.
