is that one licence per person, or one per rod
there would be a few people in here that would need a loan to cover all rods
if they brought that in here i'd enquire where exactly the money went to.. i fit doesnt go back into the sport of fishing.. i'll be the first to let you all know i'll be up to illegal activities...

This has been discussed several times before on the forum.
If the govt does go ahead, I would like to see a trawler exclusion zone around our coasts to give the smaller fish a chance to mature. there would also have to be certain no-go areas for anglers and a well observed catch and release rule in place.
If things don't chance soon, Andy's report below could become a reality -

Ive heard of it they've been talking about this as ages definately not in no way im i gona even think about paying it they can kiss my big hairy ass!! Only this evening i was listening to a radio programme and they were on about our sea fish and y cod, monkfish etc were so expensive at times due to supply not meeting demand then some guy who buys fish to sell to hotels and restaurant's was talking about y we dont eat our local species like gunard and 'our local shark' TOPE!! which he said was a 'by product of the prawn fishermen' My jaw hit the floor sureley after the wiping out of the white fish stocks around our island and further afield there not gona start and target our most prized fish. Is there no end to the slaughter and ignorance that theses trawlers have brought upon our seas. U know that the tuna was regarded as worthless in america years ago and was used to make catfood before somebody started flying it to japan then looked what happened!! there near all gone too I think that the EU or our goverment or whoever is supposed to b looking after it should sort the problems of the trawlers and the fish stocks before they even consider asking us for a penny. We'd get feck all in return the money would just be keeping some fella in a job that knows nothing about fishing.

Agree with the majority sentiment here.
I'd want the licence fee administered by a body with representatives from the angling community. I'd want the license fee to be ringfenced for conservation and protection measures. I'd want areas designated exclusively for angling. I'd want the government to take it seriously.
Until that happened, I'd be with Steve & co.

I can't see a licence coming in the south. The attempt at a coarse licence put pay to that. Any of these lcences proceeds would be just go on their administration.

Personally I would pay for a licence but like everybody else I would like assurances as to where the proceeds are going.
I am not going to pay good money to pay some overweight civil who is a few years away from his golden handshake "administer" a sport he knows fa about from a warm office in Dublin. :x
Sorry about the rant.
