Could any of the Cork lads tell me if they have fished up as far as Blackrock Castle and around the flats below(the walk that goes around to Rochestown)...i have taken mullet down around this area(which is tidal) but it looks ripe for flatties and there are crab traps set around the walk... i have heard of people fishing off Hop island on the opposite of the river years ago which was stopped... Also i haven't fished this high up an estuary since i was a small fella(the Quays in Waterford for eels)and any help with what rod and set up would be of benefit. :)

Interesting question. I'd like to know that myself. As you've said the area from the Castle down along the Marina is stuffed with big Mullet. I see them as I pass it every day going to work. I also know there were a few bass taken off the old railway bridge during the summer. However I've never seen anyone fishing any further up. I remember catching dabs on earthworms outside Shandon boat club as a nipper. I've often wondered if they could still there? With the new sewage scheme the river water should be a lot cleaner than back then.
Only one way to find out....

There's nothing worse then going to work and looking at fish in the 6lb plus bracket cruising along, i go to work that way myself but i walk there(absolutly amazing walk first thing in the morning that most people would pay to have on there doorstep  ) so i get to see where they shoal up and the different areas where they feed...just on the subject of the walk around the Point i've seen so many areas to target flatties but i'm not sure what time of year to fish for them ...i don't mind fishing down there and looking a complete plonker(OK more then usual  )but it would be nice to find out if there are fish down there before i make an idiot of myself  my only other option is to use the kids as an excuse to fish there  (major plus point is i'm less then 5 mins. walk from the Marina :) )

PM me if you're thinking of giving it a go some weekend (presumably when the weather improves!). I'm only 10 minutes away myself. We'll only look half as daft if there's two of us  .
