Not sure about the rod, but any of the reels will do a good job over clean/semi clean ground. It depends on whether you want a levelwind or not

6500ct mag elite is the dogs danglies for light beach work.Very easy to cast with and controllable.I always used to use 525mag for all shore work but I now use the elite for bass and flatties.

CS has a levelwind....avoid it. Ct Mag Elite as BigCol says is top notch.

I haven't used the greys apollo but from every one heard that has including a casting instructor say they couldn't bend it and just use it as an out and out rough ground rod. I would of thought you'd be teaming it up with at least a slosh or a 525mag.

i read the rod was a rough ground rod but i didnt think it would be that it would be that much of a poker it seems a bit strange that they would sell a rough ground rod wit a reel more suited for clean ground
the name of the site is gerrys of morecambe

The apollo rods used may have been mark 1s I'm not sure but if I were you I'd check it out.

Hi,

Don't know much about the Apollo M2 but I have the original and it's like a poker. Magic for hauling out big congers, rough ground work and "casting" big baits with 7oz of lead hanging off 'em but as a general fishing/casting rod forget it. It's like a poker and bite detection is poor, even setting the tip against the lead is hard work. This rod will break you :0

I can just about get away with semi-pendulumn's on this rod before it rips my arms off or knocks me over! Having said that it will achieve good distances but it is not built or designed for this. The job it was meant to do it does perfectly - hard graft.

I had some old sea angler top 10 beach rods article out as I've been look at rods myself and the apollo mark 2 was in there. I'm paraphrasing and say its a typical north east rock rod capable of big range with big baits but needs alot of loading and the 6oz lead rating was understated.

thanks for that donagh
Ive decided not to go for the Apollo it sounds like it may not suit the beaches i fish on the east coast no point getting the wrong tools for the job i think i will go for something else

Ive cast the apollo on the tourny field a few times, its a big and powerfull rod ok that I found needed 6oz to make it work. Saying that i managed to empty a 7ht full of .35 with it and the 6oz (yes there are pics to prove it and witnesses too), its extremly smooth when loaded and quite nice to cast IMO :D:D

Deff a heavy ground/huge baits rod if you wanted to fish with it.

Was that not the Nitra Marty??

Maybe I am wrong but thought you used the Apollo with 5oz :?

Anyway, for clean beaches take a close look at the Greys Syntra, lovely rod 8)
