Rod specifications

I have a Shakespeare MG1000 beachcaster rod - my first beach sea rod - got from a tackle shop on the basis that it "felt OK". Now that I have a year of experience, I am interested in its specifications so that I can consider buying something that might suit me better. How do I find out if the MG1000 is, for example, "fast-medium", "stiff" etc. What is the jargon and how can I find out? In mail order catalogues this information is not given - all you get is casting weight and rod length. You are not even told if a rod is glass-fibre or carbon-fibre most of the time.

Alan,

Which rod will suit you best will depend on alot of things, Where and how you want to fish, what reel you use, your physical size ( 14ft rods are a struggle for shorter people like myself for pendulum casting ), how good a caster you are and what casting style you use.

If you let us know roughly how you intend to fish and where then am sure there are plenty of people on here that would have recommendations for you.
