Long spinning rod

Hey all.

I've been spinning for ages using carp rods. I've been trying to find a spinning rod of 13ft to get that extra bit of distance which I often require (Courtmac is quite shallow with a channel a fair way out).

Can anybody recommend such a rod. 13ft minimum, 3 pieces is OK. Any help much appreciated!

Funny you should say that man! It keeps popping up in dispatches alright. What sort of distance were you able to get? Did you find the 3 piece rod was feasible?

deadly wid my mag elite :shock: :shock: i got some unreal distanses.
i must have hit 80 yards wid a 3oz dexter wedge.

i coud see why a 3 piece would b handy alright and it didnt affect the action at all.

How heavy a rod is it? Could you use it for 4 hours without losing your arm?

If its long haul spinning sessions that you are intending on fishing then the wrong rod is going to feel very heavy after a short period of time. Combine that with the fact that it probably wont animate your bait properly and you are in for a very tough time indeed. Remember extra length means extra weight and extra length does not mean extra distance.

Casting 80 yards with a dexter wedge is more than achievable with the Shimano Dia Flash or aspire range of spinning rods. If you have a good spinning reel thats setup correctly you can spin/lure fish for hours at distance without pulling your arms out.

These rods are also nicely balanced and finished to allow you to get the most from your spin fishing, within the price bracket that they occupy they are very good value for money and i would recommend them as an intermediate spinning rod - much better than carp rods i think.

Something tells me that Shimano discontinued the diaflash in 2005 and updated/morphed it into the aspire range. This is an exceptionally good range of spinning rods ranging in length from 2.1 metres to 3.3 metres across a range to suit almost any application casting lures from as light as 5 to as heavy as 200 grammes.

The quality tube they come in is also an added bonus. They cost roughly between 245.00 and 365.00 euros.

3.3 metre rod SAPAX330M - casting 10-30 grms weighs 296 - cost est 345
3.3 metre rod SAPAX330MH - casting 15-40 grms weighs 294 - cost est 345

There are shorter and lighter rods in the range that can achieve somewhat the same results.
