Bass in Red Bay

Heard from Drew that another Bass was taken tonight (about 2lb) from Waterfoot beach. Are there many reports of Bass caught through the year in this area or is it a relatively rare event?

it seems to catch its fair few there livid. though i myself have fished there for years without catching one!! i've always heard reports of bass being taken there for as long as i can remember, just not in big numbers.

the last couple of years the bass are startin to move in around the east antrim coast i've now had 3 bass off the part of the coast this year so far.....cushendun, waterfoot and carnlough one off each beach all between the 2lb and 4lb mark

i remember reading an article about twenty years ago that Carnlough was renowned as being a hot spot for bass,although i never saw one or heard of one being caught there.nowadays we are hearing of bass being caught in the most not so likely spots such as Waterfoot Beach,it gets one to thinking,why all of a sudden are they starting to appear or have they been there all along?its like guys who fished at castlerock beach and have been trying for them for years and not one,yet if you walk to the end of the beach and fish the bar mouth they can be plentiful.who knows,maybe in 10 or 20 years they shall be in such numbers they will be as plentiful on the northern shores as they are on the beaches of the southern shores...in saying that they are there and they can be caught if you are willing to target them and nothing else....

I believe if Bass continue appearing in increasing numbers around the Northern Shoreline its up to us, as Anglers, to ask the government for the immediate creation of a sustainable, recreational Bass fishery.

Im not being pesimistic here, But frankly, Any mark mentioned on S.A.I is Public domain, and Big Jimmy Dirftnet, or a small trawler could easily swoop on marks mentioned here, and have a Mark cleaned out by Wednesday.

The only answer is to save this valuable commodity in its early stages of developement, get something done now, before we lose the beginnings of a very good developement for recreational Anglers in Northern Ireland.

good to see more bass appearring all around the coast of northern ireland once again, the east coast throws them up but not really enough to make it worth targeting them, but sometimes there as a byecatch.

i agree with you drew I've seen trawlers running up and down benone, downhill and castlerock but not for a good year or 2 now....and trawlers up around cushendun rite down to glenarm....artificial reefs mite be and answer

i know what you guys are saying about the trawlers and the site being public,but then that would be the case with a lot of species mentioned on here about the area they were caught,i mind an instance a few years ago the plaice were in great numbers of the causeway bank and within 2-3 days the trawlers had came in and cleaned them up,and that was only by word of mouth that they heard about it,so it dont matter what is told on the site they will find out by other means.it would mean having to close down the fishing reports section and to be honest that wouldnt be right,there are a lot of new anglers out there who depend to an extent on the help and advice of others to help them enjoy this new sport that they are partakeing in....post a report or dont post a report,its a personal choice dont you think.....

I think we need to take heed to possible trawler skippers reading this site. After talking to a few of the fella's there. they are saying that some have moved into the red bay area and are now probably wiping the place clean.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but this seems to much of a coincidence
