Hi how are you? I'm new to this board. I've just recently joined the Culdaff sea angling club and i'll be heading to this competition in a few weeks time. Myself and a group of friends fished ballyliffen a couple of weeks ago (Pollan Bay is it's real name) We had a great day, the heaviest fish weighing in at about a pound and a half (Plaice). Also a flounder at the same size! 7 fish caught in the session. We found that low water was most productive as there is a reef about 50 yds out! Most of our fish were caught on sandeel.

I hear this beach can be a bit of a bass hot spot at this time of the year 8)
Is there any truth in that statement Ronan, or is it mostly a flat fish beach?

I'm not 100% about it being a bass hot spot but i would say that u would have a fair chance of getting one. Its a great surf beach.

mostly flounder with the odd plaice and dabs, the odd coalie or two, and a chance of bass
