County Down Marks

Hi folks, newbie here, so bear with me if this is covered elsewhere. I was wondering about a couple of spots I've been meaning to try.
1. Gibbs Island, near the Quoile barrier
2. The mouth of Dundrum bay
Has anyone any experience of these?

If you find out anything about the Quoile Barrier Give Me A Shout, its always been a spot that would interest me. I'd say the place would be stuffed with Flatties.

Though South Down is some what of a Mystery to me. Te Ariki Nua fishes down those parts I think...

Hi Mac,

from what I have heard, Dundrum Bay can be dangerous due to the tides. You can be easily caught out :shock:

There are several marks around the Ardglass area - Liam tends to use them a lot - it keeps him out of the way, which can be a good thing :lol: :lol: (BTW - that is a joke Liam)

The area around Ballyhornan can produce some good Pollack, there is a beach and rocky headland to the North of Ballyhornan which is reputed to be good.

during the summer evenings this area is full of people spinning for sea trout and mackeral although in calm weather it is also full of mullet, there was a report of a bass being caught here on a fly by someone fishing for the sea trout - but i suspect it was a mullet.

the area screams flatties but no one fishes for them, there are mussle and cockle beds on the north shore of gibbs which ought to hold flats but again no one fishes here at all!

if you fish the southern shore facing the barrage dont be put off by shallow water as there is a deep channel quite close in.

Thanks Ray. Any particular reason why nobody bothers fishing here? It seems very accessible.
Any recommendations for tackle/tide etc. if I go and try it?
