small beach fires

if i go to the likes of greystones night fishin .... with a lady friend who loves fishin but wont sit in the cold at night is it illegal to light a small (i mean small as in a few sticks not a bonfire) fire... i respect the beach and i no how to clean up after a fire... just a few sticks to keep the cold off beside the tent... is this illegal?

I think you're safe enough once it can't be seen from space .... if it's just a small fire you're usually left to it. The problem is who else you'll attract!!!

Brings back memories of lighting getting stranded in dublin and having to light a fire in phoenix park. that wasa cold night

Do what I do when I bring my missus down Greystones and put up a beach buddy,I wouldn't start a fire as you'll end up spending too much time looking for wood and not enough time fishing.Plus this time of the year its freezing down there and a small fire won't be enough to keep you warm and the wind away.

In the past I've used a peat log. You light the paper it comes in and it's basically instant. 8) It's handy also for keeping the bugs away, they don't seem to like the smell. :shock: The peat logs I'm talking about can be bought very cheaply in your local garage. They are for ordinary household use and the good thing about them is they burn away completely so there are no half burnt sticks to dispose of at the end of your session. 8)

I found that a portable bbq works just as great as a campfire with a bag of coal, plus you can heat water for coffee/tea! also u can have a bbq for dinner before you put on the coal. perfect dinner and heat for da night!

I have a wee gas stove. Its a great job. Its doesnt give of much light but makes a great cuppa

i like to light a fire all year round allmost in the sumer it will keep the midggys at bay and in the winter it will keep you warm

nearly every time i go fishing at night i light a fire if its not a comp. never get trouble but do get strange looks from locals :? its not about keeping warm its about mans primitive instinct to light fires :D

:lol: I guess we dont know for sure but I am paranoid about light on a beach where a shy fish is expecting none and even more important no talking out loud..! Sound travels far under water according to divers.
Luckily my bass buddies feel the same so there usually isnt a sound or a light on the beach at all when we fish.

Used to have some great fires on Glenarm beach when the fishing was poor. Usually ended up with 2 teams and 2 fires but the police normally requested that we put them out . SPOIL SPORTS
