Bait in Sligo

You can dig lug and rag at Gibraltar on the second sea road out the Strand-hill road. However, the rag are small and by the stream, with the better lug out on the sandbanks. I did notice the odd crab at low water below Carton Village but I an not sure if the peel is past it up there now. However, I have found that Sand-eel or Mackerel work best from the beaches. Brought up some lovely peeler in the past to have it ignored. Two sources Barton & Smith or the shop at Wine St car park. Some of the the guys may put you in touch with a bait digger as someone locally used to supply then in the summer. Hope it helps.

Hi seaniebo
The best place i find to dig lug is around Streedgh just behind the dunes at low water. There also is a place called Kellystown on the Ballysadre side of Strandhill where lug, some small rag and lots of peelers can be found. Send me a pm and I'll put you right for directions etc. As drseafish said sandeel and mackeral seem to account for most of the fish around here. I've used squid the last few times i've been out and haven't had any results.

lug and rag in Sligo

Hi Sean

Now you are up in the north west we must meet up for a session... and do some fishing too! If I recall there is a spot in sligo down past the docks where you can get rag if you can stand the smell and the stink... I will try and chase it up it may be an old email or something... squid is good for pollack and coalfish in winter off the rock marks like Aughris on a float fished set up, works extremely well if there are any fish about...
