Sevengill and Great White sharks

From the Irish Times on Thursday 19th October 2006:

SURPRISE GUEST: sevengill shark found in Irish waters
Anne Lucey

Department of the Marine officer Kevin Flannery examines the rare sevengill, or cow shark, found in Irish waters this week. He believes the fish could be an outrider for the great white shark, which feeds off the sevengill.

An aggressive shark normally found in the Pacific or off the warm waters of Africa at this time of year has been caught in the nets of a Kerry fishing vessel off Fastnet Rock.

The sevengill, or cow shark, was brought up on Tuesday morning in the nets of the HollyB, owned by John O'Donnell of Cloghane, and it was presented to a rare fish expert attached to the Mara Beo aquarium in An Daingean. The fish, a female, was already dead and is now on its way to the Museum of Natural History.

The sevengill's predator is the great white, and its presence in Irish inshore waters has led to speculation the great whites are on their way here.

You can catch these for bait off Bull Island if you use a 2/0 hook baited with Quicksilver t-shirts and Oakley sunglasses! :D

Great whites dont eat seven gilled sharks. A seven gilled shark lives in much deeper water than the great white the would be simular in size some seven gills would probable be bigger they are both preditors and to be honest i think they would both rather stay out of each others ways.

if you look up seven gilled sharks you will find that they live in deep water where the scavenge for food. Look up the great white and you will find a that this fish lives in a totally different habit.
