Groundbaiting

Anyone do this? Does it work? Indifferent?

Kinda think it's almost like cheating somehow, just don't like the thought of it...

i use it all the time, for wrasse and mullet mostly.
have had some good wrasse and pollock this year when using it, in my opinion it works.

do a search and you will see some of the older topics

i dont see how its cheating and more than using bait in the first place is.

i can work very well at times. this months sea angler has an article on it, using a swimfeeder above the lead. you can also whip bait onto the lead with elastic. only problem is that sometimes a good fish will pick up the bait around the lead and swim off with it!! this leaves you with a great run an a missed bit! throwing bits down the side such as last weeks frozen macker, mussel, crab legs and the like will get coalies, pollack, wrasse, bass, flounder....

another one i heard being used for mullet, mackeral and pollack is sensas red magik mixed with fish oil- good successes reported.

you can also try whipping a decent piece of mackeral on your snood and fish a standard bait below it- can work very well.

fish strips or gulp baits can be used above/ below standard baits in the same way.

if large fish are possible where you are fishin but the mainstay are smaller you can fish a larger hook on 1 snood of your rig carrying a large bait- this should attract more smaller fish and leave you with a shout if something bigger turns up.
