Winter Rock Species??

Hi People.
Just curious to know what type of species you can expect to catch during the winter months fishing from rocks? And what bait is a good winter bait.

Thanks in advance,
James.

Hi Burgers

Coalfish
Pollack
Whiting
Ballen Wrasse (likely to be gone by Christmas)
Rockling (mostly three breaded)
Shorthorn Sculpin
Dogfish

Congers
Codling
Poor Cod
Mackerel (now available all year round on the west coast)
Scad (gone by Christmas)

And if there is a bit of sand about... even close by, the odds jump for: -
Sea trout
Bass (south and west)
Flounder
Dabs
Bull Huss (western shores only)
Small turbot / brill (west and north)

I am sure people will add to the list. It depends where you are...

As for bait, you can not go wrong with mackerel strip, frozen is fine.
Scented baits like lugworm is good on still calm days, something with higher visibility like squid good on stormy days....

Hope this helps...
