hello

im looking at the following combo's from penn

525 supermag/xtra

with the following rods;

surf blaster Guvnor M
" " Outasite
" " Ruff stuff
PowerXstix 15MFS

i mostly fish off piers and rock marks with losts of snaggs but im hoping to try off the beach a lot more as well.

ive currently got a wee shakeshpere multiplier and rod which cost me £50 new. Thanks to a new job im treating myself next week, ive my heart set on a 525 and at the price of the combo's its almost rude not to get the rod aswell.

but i dont really know what the differences are or which would be best suited for me.

id normally fish marks like ballycastle (fairhead), glenarm, ramore head, browns bay, portaferry and waterfoot pier. But id like something that will cast good aswell should i decide to go to the beach (which ive almost got my mate talked into, hes a lazy git and like the car close by lol)

i know the casting has a lot to do with technique which i proabbly lack although i can get about 120-130 yards with a 4oz lead on my current setup.

thanks for any info you can give

Neil

I have the Ruff Stuff and teamed with a 525 it would pull the plug out. It casts very well I have to say and if your getting 120-130 yards out of a 50 quid set up you will do well with this one. I cannot comment on any of the others with any degree of authority but it is fairly widely held that the surfblaster range are highly underrated. I use mine on the beach on days with lots of weed or heavy winds to good effect. I like the set up a lot.

Well Thompo I bought the Outasite combo in April and to be honest I love it.I find it more than capable for fishing rough ground e.g. Portaferry.I have made a good few posts about this combo and in all of them I give it 10 out of 10 for value and quality.
As for distance well I'd be the first to admit I'm not a great caster (about 70yrd over head thump)so earlier in the year I joined the Ulster Casting Club http://www.ulstercastingclub.orgI got a new personal best of 182yrds on Sunday using the outasite + supermag.Maybe not a great cast compared to some of the guys on this forum but I'm still over the moon.So if you are getting the distance already this combo should have no trouble adding a lot more distance to your cast.
