wats the best line to load on a fixed spool reel, ive got 2 shimano ultigra xt 12000 big pit reels, from when i used to carp fish, im after distance having bought a shakespeare k2 14.5 m rod, im thinking of putting mono on one, and braid on another, wat mono or braid would you recomend, for distance casting, as i dont want to buy crap line or crap braid.
cheers.

Berkley Whiplash and Suffix Synergy would be my two choices.
Have a good look at the actual diameter of the braid as opposed to Berkleys supposed equivalent breaking strain versus mono. I'm trying to pull these figures off the top of my head so I stand to be corrected but it's 20lb whiplash I have on a fixed spool which Berkley claims is equivalent to 6 or 8lb mono. However the actual diameter of the barid is closer to 12lb.

i would go 4 fireline on one and daiwa sensor on the other.

yeah daiwa sensor for me too. for braid i only use power pro now.
i have coupled some of my big pit reels with beachcating rods too, a nice combo. also the big pit reels and a 3 and 3/4 lbs TC pike rod makes a good surf combo.

presently using sakuma nite crysatl line on my ultegra 12000, had daiwa sensor on it before that, both seem fine. i aint had braid on it yet though so cant comment, spiderwire stealth on one of my other reels though, good line IMHO

I was talking to Alan Yates about this a few months ago about this same matter, this was his reply.
"most of the braids are OK, I use 20lb Berkley Whiplash - The Fladen braid is reckoned to be good and look out for the new Fox braids."

Only used the Whiplash 30lb & 60lb and Power Pro 65lb. I prefer the Whiplash as it is a smoother line - at least in the 60lb range. The 30lb line I have is superb. Check the capacity of your spool. You may have to load a mono backing onto the spool before the braid as it is so much thinner than mono.
