mullet

there was a great post about a month ago to do with carlingford lough. one of the fella's caught a belter

lots and lots of patience :lol: once you locate some try and get them feeding on bread crumb and small pieces of floating bread , then the hard bit ,getting them to actually take the bread with the hook !! small float on 4/6lb line with a size 10 hook about 3 feet from the float has worked for me ,though i've only managed 2 so far after a fair bit of time spent trying .

Study the mullet you are targetting. You may find if they are harbour mullet they might feed better on fish. If you can get the fish feeding they will be much easier to catch.

I've got them into a bit of a frenzy, cast out and they readly take the hook bait (I use a Mustad 3261 size 4 & a small bubble float) The soft mouth thing is a myth. More fish are lost because of the runs than anything else. Make sure your drag is set because all hell breaks loose. What a scrap!

the advice i would give is to get some sort of surface controller thats used for carp fishing. Then attach a leader(i use 8-10lb flurocarbon) about 3-4 feet long.Pinch a bit of bread around the shank of a size 2-8 hook, then all u need 2 do is cast it out amonkst the mullet and waight.
it may seem like they are not intersted but u should have something around the bread in about 1-2 minuets.

When u are fishing and the bread sinks to the point where u cant see it i would reel in and put a fresh piece on because a controller does not offer much bite detection.
