Was getting the foyle ferry on sunday and there a lock of boys at the harbour and as soon as the ferry passed them the mouth of the harbour, bam all three of them caught good size mackeral.

One question. when will the mack start to reside back the deep waters

Round Our Way I'm presuming your on about the five fingers strand on the coast road outside of Malin? If so you'll get flounders and sea trout on it, there might be the odd bass about it too although I've never got one on it anytime I fished it. The fingers of rock on the right of it can be fished of in calmer weather, they'll get you a bit further out and you can catch plenty of dogs once the light starts to go.

i only kept the largest of mackeral. good craic all the same. Yeah i think it was five fingers beach. i seen the inlet to the river at the end of the beach which gave me an ingling that there might be a couple of sea trout about. seen a lot of washed up crabs. assuming that there must be something feeding on them

Latest mack I've had would have been the end of november in 8ft of water (or less) at Buncrana pier

Thu Oct 05, 2006 9:56 am

Ive also had mackerel and scad from teelin rocks and pier up to the start of december, but if the weather is ruff they will not be caught.
From the rocks at teelin on a calm day there will be some scarce mackerel in deep water, always seem to get 3 or 4 if you stay at it long enough. But in the summer you could fill fish boxes!!!! Probly the best spot that Ive caught mackerel. Some days they will be very small, other days they will be bruts!!!
