hi to you all this is just a general warning to all anglers in the increased amount of weevers around the east antrim coast these fish can cause a bad sting with venom injected and in rare cases can kill,
at waterfoot beach yesterday we caught seven between two of us, so watch out the weevers are about

Thanks for the warning. Perhaps it should be in the Shore Angling Q&A / Forum -- folks might pay more attention.

just in case... if you do get stung.. put the affected area in really hot water.. as hot as you can withstand.. dont pour boilng water overyourself (heard someone did that, ended up in hospital with serious burns, cured the poison though :? :? )
get medical advice as soon as you can..

Aside from the venom thing, seeing more weavers may be a good sign of improving water quality - they really like clean water and if they're increasing in numbers that can only be a good sign...

Might not be a bad idea to sticky the start of this thread for noobs if many more weavers pop up around the coast. :?:

as regards weever stings and hot water it does not have to be as hot as you can stand. studies have shown that the protien which causes the stinging sensation, and subsequent edema and severe pain denatures at approximatly 40 degrees c. so this is the optimum temp to neutralise the venom.also it is common for the spine to break off soensure that u remove all traces of the spine from the effected limb
