Shakespeare customer service

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with shakespeare regarding problems. Bought a zfs 70 mustang fs reel a while back. Have only used it 5 or 6 times and the anti reverse seems to be broken already. Was fine until a doggie bashing session today. Even striking into fish it was grinding backwards. Haven't given it any abuse at all. Cheap reel but surely should be better than that. Is it worth getting in touch with them or should i just forget about it and buy something decent (which i will anyway, probably an aerlex).

had dealings once a long time ago... havent bothered with them since...

took ages to get a reply and the service wasn't the best either :cry: :cry:

but as i said that was a long time ago (8yrs or so).. things might have changed since then...

Have you had a look yourself.The anti reverse in this reel is found under the spool.Remove the spool pull off the cog underneath remove the star screw beside brass nut remove the plate holding the nut in place unscrew the brass nut (clockwise to loosen)lift off the front of the reel.Inside there should be a wire clip which engages the anti reverse just check that this is in place and the lock itself is moving freely.

I had one of those and it was not a bad reel. A dealer later told me that they used to have a problem with a spring or clip inside that was easy to fix, He could replace the part and most dealers keep bits and bobs for just this reason. Take it back and your dealer will sort it or replace it for you.

if you do alot of fishing like once or twice a week then do your self a favor and get your self a good reel like a Penn surfmaster 70 or something like that it will last you ages. and i find that Penn's s customer service's are second to none i use to fish with shakespeare reels they might last you 1-2years and that was a £35 reel but the Penn 70 will last a good 5-10 years maybe more and its £70 you do the math it makes sense
